No, No, No , they are getting the net neutrality issue all wrong!!

I just read this article on net neutrality from the BBC .

The answer to a internet that provides an environment that incubates innovation is an internet that is managed by market forces and not by any country’s political legislative body.

In the US, the governments attempt to legislate telcom reform has failed.

Although the 1996 Telcom reform act created an environment to support competition, it also created an environment where lawyers were needed to help navigate the legislative laws.

Net result, an environment that was managed by market forces guided by legal aide.

Stop the insanity, let the market guide itself, let's turn back the clock to 1700's, think
Adam Smith .

If Verizon (or any other LEC) blocks access to eBay or Google, let the market respond on the move, let users make their opinions known with the spend they control!!

Re: IMS

I don't think that's what IMS is about at all.

But, almost any technology can be used for both good and evil. What many of the new content MVNO's are doing right now is very evil, and they are doing it without IMS. They created a closed environment so that you have to buy your mobile phone and it's service from them in order to get the user experience that they offer. This is quite unlike AOL, who makes their software available for any user on the Internet to get the AOL user experience with the "bring your own access" product that they have.

IMS provides the architecture to enable a custom user experience with "bring your own access," including the ability for the end-user to have an active profile with several running in the background. The new mobile companies have been told that the value is not in providing the user experience, but in OWNING the end user. As long as that business model reigns, the full FREEDOM that IMS could enable will never be realized.

Net Neutrality

:-)

I am torn between agreement and disagreement, but for different reasons ;-)
I am worried that carriers will latch onto IMS and will create a sanitary, pre-packaged internet, "specially made" for the inept ;-)  It will be AOL all over again ;-)

cheers,

Use the "|" character to create a "piped link," e.g., "[[w:public transport|public transportation]]" displays as "public transportation."
