SunRocket and stand-alone VoIP

I share your assumptions that the situation with SunRocket will undoubtly lead to more government regulation of some sort. Before this happened to me as a customer of SunRocket, I would have been totally against more regulation. But now that I'm living through the agony of not knowing whether or not my phone number will port from Global Crossing to my new carrier because SunRocket can't answer the request, I feel that something must be done to help protect not only consumers like me, but CLEC's like Global Crossing. Your company is caught in the middle - you won't be getting paid by SR and you'll likely end up with a number of numbers, like mine, that were ported to you but now must be released, either to new providers or back into the pool. In my case, I think the number will go back to my old POTS carrier, where I ported from in the first place.

I fear for the future of Vonage - unless they can resolve their differences with Verizon and figure out a way to diversify or merge with someone, the sad story of SunRocket might be repeating on a much larger scale.

So, like many other former SunRocket subcribers, we face these options: continue to take huge risks with stand-alone VoIP companies, crawl back to our original POTS service or their IP solution, or send our business to the cable company.
